Strategic Wealth Management

What distinguishes Trust Company from our peers is our comprehensive financial planning approach.  The journey to a secure financial future begins with a plan, a road map to attain your goals and preserve your gains.  We place as much emphasis on crafting your personal map as we do on investment management.

How Do You Separate the News from the Noise?

It is no wonder that some investors develop a short-sighted focus in today’s frantic investment environment.  Round-the-clock media saturation provides lots of information, but very little insight . . . a poor perspective from which to make important, long-term financial decisions.  Trust Company helps you tune out the noise and stay focused on your long-term wealth management objectives.  Our relationship begins with understanding the issues and concerns most important to you personally.  Wealth is a means to an end, not the end itself.  Our goal is to help you achieve your goals: empower your wealth, to enjoy an independent and secure retirement, create a financial legacy for future generations, or assist charitable interests—whatever you want your money to do for you.

We take our role as an objective fiduciary seriously.  A Trust Company advisory team works like your personal chief financial officer.  Most investment advisors have a prejudice toward a particular facet of wealth management. What distinguishes Trust Company is our passion to make all the vital components work together. Is your IRA beneficiary designation congruent with your estate plan? Is your investment portfolio properly allocated among large cap, small cap and real estate? Do you have too little or too much life insurance and is it owned in the most tax-efficient manner? Any recommendation we make is analyzed from a comprehensive wealth management perspective and we always disclose all fees and costs associated with those recommendations.  All strategic recommendations follow the roadmap we draw up together.

Reaching Your Wealth Management Destination Make Take Several Different Routes

Retirement Planning
At what age might you retire and how much will you need to maintain your current lifestyle?  How do you most effectively use the entirety of your assets during retirement?  Structuring 401(k) and IRA distributions requires careful planning.
Strategies appropriate for wealth accumulation do not necessarily govern during retirement years, when preservation and utilization are the focus.  Mistakes on these issues are often irreversible, thus the importance of comprehensive consideration and thorough review.  We recognize the realities of your particular situation and apply the rules accordingly.

Estate Planning and Charitable Giving Strategies
Each client has different ideas as to what should happen to his/her assets upon death. The challenge is to accommodate those desires as efficiently as possible. Trust Company does not give legal advice, but we explain the various techniques and strategies to you, then work with your estate planning attorney to implement a plan. Our goal is to make the estate planning process clear and understandable, while fully utilizing the appropriate estate tax minimization strategies.

Insurance Planning
Our firm believes it is difficult, if not impossible, to provide objective advice if one is also engaged in the sale of insurance products.  We do not sell insurance because the economics are such that the interests of the client and the interests of the advisor diverge.  We can help you understand how much life insurance you need to be financially safe, to minimize your tax burden, and to provide adequate liquidity for cash needs of your estate. We review disability and long-term care coverage, and pay special attention to adequate liability insurance, a potentially crucial element of asset protection given today’s litigious and uncertain world.  Trust Company can provide access to low cost solutions for our clients.

Tax Planning
We work closely with your tax advisors to minimize the tax consequences of the wealth management plan. Thousands of dollars are wasted each year by wealthy individuals who lack specialized advice, particularly in the following areas:

  • Stock Options
  • Alternative Minimum Tax Issues
  • Tax Efficient Investment Strategies
  • Estate Planning

Fiduciary Services
Effective wealth management strategies generally involve the services of a corporate fiduciary.  We are chartered to serve in any fiduciary role.  Unlike the sometimes bureaucratic or impersonal approach of large financial institutions, we apply our individualized and flexible approach to our fiduciary services.  Our shared family office services can simplify your life, enabling you to focus on your interests, rather than the laborious and onerous daily demands of handling one’s own affairs.  We provide a permanent and skilled resource over many generations.

Investment Management
A sound investment strategy is the cornerstone of wealth accumulation and
preservation.  As such, we feel that this part of your long-term success must be precisely tailored to meet your personal goals.  How does Trust Company manage this fundamental part of our relationship with you? (Please see Investment Philosophy and Approach for more information.)
